Make a Routine with Four Minutes a Day

Good dental care is routine dental care. Create a routine that covers all your bases, and stick with it! The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that in addition to regular dental cleanings and flossing every day, you should brush twice a day for two minutes each session for a total of four minutes of brushing each day. Four minutes might not seem like very long, but we challenge you to time yourself and see how long you actually brush! If you’re getting your four minutes, great! If not, try these tips to bring yourself up to par!

1) Use Your Phone
Your smartphone has the ability to think about this stuff for you! Just program alarms and reminders that will repeat every day, and you’ll be all set! You can even use the phone to time your two minute brushing sessions.

2) Get a Two-Minute Toothbrush
Toothbrushes have the ability to automatically brush for two minutes and then shut off. All you have to do is add the toothpaste and move it around your mouth! This is perfect for those of us who aren’t morning people. All you need to do is turn the toothbrush on and keep it moving until it stops. No thinking required!

3) Make it a Household Challenge
The best way to ensure that you and everyone else in your house is brushing for the appropriate amount of time is to make one another accountable for brushing! If it’s just you and your spouse or partner, you are all set! You can even ask your child to take the four minute challenge with you! If you fly solo, ask a friend to take the challenge, and check in with one another to see how it’s going.

Four minutes might not seem like a big deal, but we guarantee that you will feel a difference, especially if you are like most people who only brush for 30-45 seconds at a time! A full two minutes will feel completely different! Contact us today to set up your appointment for a routine cleaning, and let us know how your four minutes are going!
