Are you like the millions of other Americans who are afraid of the dentist? It’s a common fear, and there are many things driving this feeling. Here at Marineland Dental Care, we are working to help you overcome that fear by using sedation dentistry to change the way you feel when you come into the office!

That’s right, you will feel different as you walk through the doors because we can provide you with a sedation option that you can take before you ever leave your house! You will, of course, need to grab a ride with a friend or family member!

But before we start talking about sedation options here in the office, let’s discuss the reason you are feeling so frightened when you consider the dental office. If you don’t address the reason behind your fear, you might never be able to address it!

What’s Causing Your Fear?

When we talk with patients about the reasons behind their fear, we often find the same thing: they don’t know! Many patients have no idea why they are afraid of the dentist, but it is something to think about. You get this message from many different sources. You see it in Hollywood movies, and you hear it from family members. So many sources are saying the same thing, so it must be a reason to be afraid, right?

That’s not always the case. Many times the details are exaggerated for the sake of the story. Hollywood is especially bad about this! So you might be afraid without really knowing what you’re being afraid of!

In other cases, a patient is afraid because of past experiences. Whether a dentist scared you when you were a child, or maybe as an adult, you should understand a couple of different things. First, dentistry has changed A LOT in the past decade, so it might be time to consider making an appointment.

Second, not all dentists are the same. We hear these stories from time to time, and we hate that you had to experience such a frightening thing! Just know that there is hope for you to have a great dental experience, you just need to find the right place, like our office!

Dealing with Fear

Once you understand what is causing your fear, you will be able to tackle those fears. After all, you can’t walk around for the rest of your life without seeing a dentist simply because you are afraid! You need this resource to keep your smile healthy and clean. Plus, the dental office is the key to maintaining your smile for the rest of your life!

Sedation Options

One way you can deal with your fear is through sedation options. We offer two, powerful sedation options here at Marineland Dental Care. Let’s take a closer look at these two options so that you have a better idea of what you can expect when you come in for your next cleaning or appointment.

Nitrous Oxide – The most common form of sedation is nitrous oxide. You can simply wear a mask over your nose and mouth which will allow you to breathe in the calming gas. You will still be awake and aware, but your entire body and mind will be relaxed!

Oral Conscious Sedation – Oral conscious sedation is a different kind of sedation that is reserved for patients who need an extra boost to their relaxation! We will prescribe a medication for you to take about an hour before you begin your appointment. By the time you get here, you’ll be feeling great!

Both – We work with these sedation methods quite a bit, and we have learned that you can also combine nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation to create a deeper level of relaxation! We use this for patients who are extremely fearful!
