1) Your Daily Routine
Your daily oral hygiene routine is what will stop gum disease before it ever gets going. Gum disease is caused by bacteria, so you have to remove that bacteria twice a day. You do this by brushing in the morning for two minutes. Then, flossing and brushing for another two minutes at the end of the day. You might also through in a mouth rinse, but the brushing and flossing will do most of the work.

2) Dental Cleanings
Even if you have the beginning of gum disease, gingivitis, a good dental cleaning in the office can take care of that infection without too much trouble. By allowing us to use special tools and really clean out your mouth, you will see the bacteria go and will be able to go on with a newly cleared mouth.

3) Periodontal Treatment
If gum disease isn’t caught early, it can progress deep into the gums by forming pockets up against the teeth. At this stage, the bacteria is weakening your bone support and harming the tooth. We need to do a deep cleaning and possibly antibiotic treatment to remove the infection. In rare cases, we might need to do oral surgery to completely remove the infection.
